Analyst Exam Materials
2026 Analyst Reading List
The Exam Development Committee has finalized the Analyst Reading List. You will find it attached as both a PDF and Word document (in case you like to take notes, etc). You can use this Reading List as a guide when preparing for the Analyst Exam. It doesn’t mean that you need to memorize every word of every book listed. When trying to figure out what you need to know, please refer to the Competencies. They are included in the Reading List. For each source, a competency has also been mapped to it to help your studying. The key to studying is going to be those competencies. The Exam Development Committee is going to be making your exam to test those competencies. As mentioned in the past email, your exam will have a 3-4 hour time limit. You can expect to use physical specimens, images, radiographs, laboratory instruments to answer multiple choice and short answer questions. The short answer questions will be relatively short write-in answers, not paragraphs or essays. You may also have some questions not directly related to a specimen that tests your knowledge of the field (again based on the competencies and reading list). About half of the exam will be practical-like, in regards to the use of physical specimens, while the other half will have written questions. Besides knowledge-based questions, the written questions may also involve scenario-like questions. An overall score of 80% or higher is required to pass.
Again – focus on the competencies!
